Jean-Luc du Preez: “Tony Brown’s Influence Is Massive On Our Attack”

Springboks utility forward Jean-Luc du Preez will mark Du Preez’s first start in the green and gold since 2018 and his first appearance for the Springboks in almost two years, something he was thrilled about, even though it is not an official Test match.

Du Preez made his last appearance for the Springboks in August 2023 during the Rugby Championship match against the Pumas in Argentina.

"Playing for the Springboks again has always been in the back of my mind, and my plan was always to give my best for my club in the hope that I make it back into the team, so I’m delighted to get this opportunity again."

"It is a massive privilege, so I plan to go out there and give it my best."

Commenting on partnering up with Vincent Tshituka and Marco van Staden in a physical loose trio, Du Preez said: "I’m looking forward to playing with Marco and Vincent. They are two very good rugby players."

Du Preez praised the influence of Tony Brown during the past two years.

"The Springboks have always been labelled conservative, tending to kick a lot and play in the opposition half. But with Tony coming in over the last two years, our attack has stepped up."

Despite it being an exhibition match, Du Preez does not underestimate the massive challenge that awaits the loose trio.

"The Barbarians enjoy putting up a good display for the crowd, and we expect players like Sam Cane and Shannon Frizell to come hard at us. There is no doubt that many of their players will want to prove a point against the Boks."

"The likes of Shannon Frizell and Sam Cane, they are going to come out hard."

"They’ll want to prove themselves against the Springboks, and that’s where we need to front up. It’s going to be a good match-up."
