The Hollywoodbets Sharks XV kept their Currie Cup semi-final hopes alive with a commanding 53-22 bonus-point victory over the Vodacom Bulls XV.
The clinical nine-try performance moves the Sharks into fourth place on the log with 18 points. However, their playoff spot remains unsecured, as the Pumas on 17 points and Boland on 16 points both hold a crucial game in hand.
The Sharks initiated a "black tsunami" right from the opening whistle. Flanker Tino Mavesere dismantled the Bulls' defence to cross the whitewash twice in the opening 12 minutes, giving his side an early 12-00 lead.
The Bulls briefly responded in the 24th minute when Kebotile Maake capitalised on a powerful Chinedu Amadi scrum break, cutting the deficit to 12-07.
However, the Sharks answered instantly. Luan Giliomee sparked a brilliant run to set up Ross Braude, before Tim Swiel danced past defenders to secure the four-try scoring bonus point within 28 minutes.
Mavesere then completed a spectacular first-half hat-trick from a rolling maul. Braude followed up by sniping through for his second try just before the whistle, leaving the Sharks leading 36-07 at halftime.
The Bulls showed immense fight early in the second period. They exploited a charged-down kick that allowed Marnus Rademeyer to squeeze over in the corner and open their second-half account.
Following a sustained period of pressure in the Sharks' red zone, Brooklyn Newman caught the defence off-guard from a quick tap penalty to score, reducing the gap to 36-17.
The Sharks quickly wrestled back momentum. The unstoppable Mavesere picked up from the base of a ruck and burst straight down the middle to claim his fourth try of the match.
The Bulls managed to secure a consolation scoring bonus point through Lavela Pongolo during a frantic, open segment of play, bringing the score to 43-22.
The Sharks emphatically closed out the game. Late substitute Jacques Marais produced a spectacular double by bursting through the middle of two separate mauls, including an incredible 40-metre solo sprint, to seal the resounding 53-22 victory.
