Grey College Appoints New Director Of Rugby

Grey College has officially announced the return of old boy Wessel du Plessis, who will assume the role of Director and Head of Rugby Affairs effective 1 November 2026.

A true product of the Bloemfontein powerhouse, Du Plessis matriculated from the school in 2002, where he famously played for an unbeaten 1st XV rugby team. His coaching journey at his alma mater began in 2006 with the U/16A side, followed by his appointment to the teaching staff in 2010.

Between 2014 and 2020, Du Plessis spearheaded a highly dominant modern era of Grey College rugby as the 1st XV head coach. During this remarkable tenure, he oversaw 110 matches, securing 100 victories, 3 draws, and conceding just 7 defeats—translating to a staggering 90.9% win rate.

He subsequently transitioned into professional rugby structures with the Blue Bulls Company, sharpening his tactical expertise in a high-performance environment.

Du Plessis will take over the reins from Bobby Joubert. His highly anticipated homecoming is seen as a vital step in restoring and securing Grey College's position as the absolute dominant force in schoolboy rugby.
