
It was confirmed that FNB Central University of Technology lost the five log points earned by beating the FNB University of Johannesburg on 17 February 2025 in Johannesburg for fielding a player not eligible to play following a complaint lodged after the match. It must be noted that FNB UJ did not earn points following the decision.
Following an investigation, it was discovered that Kgothatso “KT” Sono was ineligible for selection, as he did not complete the postgraduate qualification for which he was registered in the past year.
Following yesterday's round two fixtures FNB UP-Tuks are tied with FNB Maties at the top of the log with ten log points, while FNB NWU Eagles, FNB UJ and FNB Wits are all tied.
At the end of the 2025 season, the team which ended at the bottom of the Varsity Cup will be automatically relegated to the Varsity Shield while the team placed second last will play a promotion/relegation match against the team which ended second in the Varsity Shield after the regular cup matched excluding the playoffs. The team ending first on the Varsity Shield log will automatically promoted to the Varsity Cup.
