Emirates Lions Slump To Another Loss At Home Against The Scarlets

The Emirates Lions hosted the Scarlets on Sunday afternoon and lost 32-19 in around 17 fixtures in the United Rugby Championship.

A cagey start by both teams, however, the Scarlets, helped by the ill-discipline from the Lions, scored the first points with a try by Blair Murray who cut the defence of the Lions in two to lead 07-00 after the conversion by Sam Costelow.

Fifteen minutes later, it was once again Blair Murray who ended a brilliant fifteen-man attack with a try next to the uprights, Sam Costelow added the extra two to extend the Scarlets' lead to 14-00.

The Lions launched wave after wave of attacks, and eventually it was Nico Steyn who forced his way over the tryline. Wolhuter converted to cut the Scarlets' lead to 14-07 and six minutes to play in the first half.

Sam Costelow converted a drop-goal with time up to extend the Scarlets' lead to 17-07.

Despite the Scarlets scoring an early try after just four minutes had been played in the second half, the Lions started like a house on fire and David Kriel scored twice in the first twenty minutes of the second half to trail 22-19.

The rest of the half was an arm wrestle with several mistakes made by both teams, however, a converted try by Johnny Williams and a converted penalty by Sam Costelow secured the Scarlets' a 32-19 win.
