Experienced loose forward Dave Ewers has signed a short-term contract to join the DHL Stormers squad ahead of the 2024/25 season.
The powerful back-rower, who is at home both at blindside flank and No.8, earned over 200 caps for English side Exeter Chiefs before joining Ulster last season.
Ewers starred for the Exeter team that won the Investec Champions Cup and Premiership double in 2020 and brings a hard edge on both attack and defence.
DHL Stormers Director of Rugby John Dobson said that Ewers will bring plenty of physicality along with his considerable experience.
“Dave fits the profile of what we were looking for in the short-term, given we are missing some key loose forwards due to injury.
“He has proven himself as a top player with the experience of what it takes to mix it with the best in Europe, so we are looking forward to seeing the impact he will have within our system,” he said.
Ewers said that he is thrilled to be in Cape Town with the DHL Stormers.
“I am originally from Zimbabwe, so to be back down south is very exciting and I am ready to get stuck in for the DHL Stormers.
“There are some incredible players in this squad and hopefully I can add something extra as we gear up for an exciting season,” he said.
