Dewaldt Duvenage Insists DHL Western Province Still Have Everything To Play For

Western Province backline coach Dewaldt Duvenage insisted that there’s still everything to play for as WP heads to Bloemfontein for a crunch Currie Cup clash against the Cheetahs.

Duvenage believes that WP can still qualify for a semi-final spot.

“We’re not far away.”

“Cohesion comes with time, and hopefully we’ll start seeing some benefits from this weekend. We have improved, we’re learning every day, but we have to learn quicker and find answers faster.”

“We pride ourselves on our attack. The main challenge has been getting everyone on the same page. We’re not getting that 80-minute performance together yet. After the first game, we needed to improve our set-piece and discipline, which we did in the second game. But then last week at the breakdown we suffered against Griquas.”

Captain Zain Davids, who left the field against the Griquas with a knee injury in Kimberley, will face a fitness test on Tuesday to determine his availability.

Another big blow for WP was the loss of Sprigbok Salmaan Moerat, who was released by the Springboks to get game time in the Currie Cup.

“I do know he got an injury during training,” Duvenhage said. “I don’t have an update on that. Unfortunately, I think he will be out for the Springboks at the moment.”
