Deon Carstens the Boland Landbou scrumhalf is highly regarded in SA schoolboyrugby as the closest to Fourie du Preez we have seen on the schoolboy rugby field. He has a brilliant box kick just like Fourie, he has a massive pass and is very strong with ball in hand.
Deon’s biggest attribute though is how well he reads the game. He was instrumental in the success of the Boland Landbou first team in 2016. Along with his captain Heinrich Brendel, Deon lead the team very well as vice captain and was also part of the WP Cravenweek team who once again went unbeaten at the Cravenweek. It was the 2nd year in a row that Boland Landbou has produced the Cravenweek scrumhalf and Deon follows in the footsteps of Jondre Williams who in 2015 played Cravenweek and SA Schools.
Deon was very unlucky to miss out on selection after a superb performance against the Sharks on the 3rd day of the Cravenweek in Durban. Deon has signed a contract with WP from 2017. He is certainly a player for the future.
