The Vodacom Bulls released an injury update while the squad is preparing for their final warm-up match against the Cell C Sharks and the start of the new rugby season.
Prop Simphiwe Matanzima tore his Achilles tendon last year which kept him sidelined for nine months. He has successfully completed eight months of rehabilitation and will start with unit training as of next week. He is expected to make a full recovery by the middle of April 2021.
Lock/loose forward Sintu Manjezi tore his ACL during the Carling Currie Cup final against the Cell C Sharks. He underwent successful surgery and will be sidelined for another five to six months.
Springbok scrumhalf Ivan van Zyl picked up a niggle with his knee which required surgery. He is expected to return by the middle of April 2021.
Blitzbok Stedman Gans tore the syndesmosis in his ankle against the DHL Stormers last weekend and will be sidelined for 10 weeks.
Wing Stravino Jacobs fractured his finger against the New Nation Pumas several weeks ago and will be sidelined for six weeks.
Springbok utility back Gio Aplon is undergoing rehabilitation for his torn ACL that occurred during last year’s Vodacom Super Rugby Unlocked. He is expected to be back in June 2021.
Short term injuries:
Loose forwards Elrigh Louw and Muller Uys were referred for surgery to their AC joint. Both are making good progress with Louw to start unit training next week and Uys expected to be back by the middle of April 2021.
Springbok loose forward Duane Vermeulen required surgery to his knee during the off season and is expected to start running in two weeks.
Lock Walt Steenkamp picked up a niggle with his heart that required a procedure to be done. After a repeat procedure, he is doing well and a follow up with the cardiologist is set for the middle of April 2021, where a decision will be made on his integration back into training.
Springbok loose forward Arno Botha picked up a mild calf niggle three weeks ago but has made good progress and will return to training as of next Monday.
