“I ask not what rugby has in store for me but ask what I have in store for rugby,” says the newly appointed assistant coach of the Bulls Daisies, Bongiwe Nhleko who has joined the Daisies on an initial 2-year deal.
The former University of Johannesburg Women’s Rugby Head Coach and Greenside High School director of sports is known for her exciting and innovative take on the game and quickly developed her unique coaching philosophy, which is a tech-oriented approach to player and team development.
Nhleko adds: “The next couple of seasons will be more exciting when you consider the calibre of players we have to work with, and so one must be dynamic in their approach, raising the bar and standard on either side of the line. That is what lies ahead, a wonderful opportunity to raise the bar.”
Speaking on her outlook on success, Nhleko says: “I measure my success not by the weight of materials or any amount but simply by what I pass down to the next individual, which leaves a long-lasting impression and impact. That is what I will be hoping to achieve during my time here.”
Nhleko is a former captain of the Golden Lions Women’s side, a Laureus Sports for Good Alumni and a University Sports assistant coach; all portfolios that add to the depth of her knowledge.
Thando Manana, the Executive for Strategic Projects at the BBCo. Says: “We welcome Bongiwe to the home of champions and are excited to see her make use of her wealth of expertise to grow our high-performance environment.”
“She has a dynamic approach to coaching, and that will be a fresh take that is bound to add something new to our Daisies’ arsenal. She is also a well-travelled coach with a wonderful global outlook, which can only be beneficial for our squad.”
