Blitzboks Hold On For Round 1 Win Against Spain

The Blitzboks held on in their round 1 match against Spain to secure a 21-14 win at the HSBC SVNS Singapore tournament.

The Blitzboks had a dominant start to the match; however, a knock-on on the attack was used by Spain to launch an attack from within their own 22m to score the opening try for Spain to lead 07-00.

The Blitzboks replied almost immediately when Donavan Don stormed through a gap in his own half to score and level the scores 07-07, and two minutes still to play in the first half.

Zander Reynders scored the Blitzboks second try, with an aggresive run, bursting through several tackles. Shilton van Wyk scored the Blitzboks’ third try, following great interplay with Tristan Leyds, to lead 21-07 at the halftime break.

Spain scored first in the second half, again pouncing on a mistake made by the Blitzboks in their half to score a long-distance try, cutting the Blitzboks' lead to 21-14 following two minutes of play in the second half.

The Blitzboks held on for a 21-14 win.

The Blitzboks will face Great Britain at 10:20 (SA Time), who lost 22-12 to Fiji in their Round 1 clash.
