Blitzboks Cruise Into Playoffs With Win Over Spain in Vancouver

 

Following a brilliant second half, the Blitzboks cruised to a 28-07 win over Spain, qualifying for the playoffs late on Sunday evening, despite still having to play New Zealand in a Pool A match.

The Blitzboks dominated territory in the first half but could only add points to the scoreboard when Ronald Brown sniped from the back of the scrum. Brown added the extra two points to lead 07-00 following five minutes of play in the first half.

The Blitzboks led 07-00 at the halftime break.

Sebastiaan Jobb cut the defence of Spain in two and ran seventy-five meters to score the first points of the second half, which Brown converted to extend the Blitzboks' lead to 14-00 after just thirty seconds of play in the second half.

The Blitzboks upped the pace of their attack, and Shilton van Wyk and Tristan Leyds added their name to the list of try scorers within two minutes of play.

With time up on the clock, Spain scored a consolation try, which cut the Blitzboks’ lead to 28-07, which was the final score.
