Argentina has confirmed the 30 players who will travel to Italy for the 2025 World Rugby Under-20 Championship in June.
Nicolás Fernández Miranda, head coach of Los Pumitas, expressed himself after announcing the players: "The time to finalisation of the selection is a very important moment, after a long process of many months, a lot of monitoring and a lot of work with the entire team. We always talk with the players, and I want to congratulate them all for their effort, for having given their best and having contributed to the team."
"From the staff's point of view, it is to have given the best to everyone who went through the selection process and to see their improvement during all these months."
"Now we are focused on the World Cup and next week's training camp at Casa Pumas prior to the trip. The boys will finish their participation with the clubs and franchises this week, and then we can prepare in the best way, starting next Tuesday when we will have our heads set on the qualifying zone and on Wales, which is the first game of the championship. Now to fine-tune and arrive in the best shape for June 29."
The team is coming into the World Cup in top form after its recent appearance in the Rugby Championship U20 tournament in South Africa in May. There, it faced the powers of the Southern Hemisphere, with the following results:
Argentina 25-36 South Africa
Argentina 21-75 New Zealand
Argentina 36-40 Australia
The Argentine national team's best result at a World Rugby Championship was a third-place finish in England 2016 (a 49-19 victory over South Africa to take the podium). Last year, in the championship held in South Africa, the Argentine team finished fifth after defeating Australia 14-6.
