Diamantveld hosted Affies at Kimberley on Saturday. It was Affies’ first match of their 2022 season. Affies outplayed Diamantveld in all aspects to beat them 40-3.
It was also the first match with Affies’ newly appointed 1st IV coach, Ruaan Jacobs at the helm. His team did not disappoint as Affies displayed nice flair and totally dominated all aspects of the match.
They played well-structured rugby with a very good interplay between the forwards and backline players. The speedsters in the Affies backline exploited gaps in the Diamantveld defence and punished them by scoring well-worked tries.
Diamantveld looked ragged by the end of the first half with the score at 35-3 in favour of Affies. The continued pressure and solid defence by Affies in the second half further prevented Diamantveld from playing good rugby, despite them trying to get some plays going.
Unfortunately, a number of handling errors by Affies on attack resulted in lost scoring opportunities, which kept the scoreline in check with only one try scored by them in the second half. They also conceded a number of penalties which broke the good momentum that they built up during the first half.
