Jake White, the Bulls’ Director of Rugby of the Vodacom Bulls, said during the post-match interview on Saturday following their defeat to Castres that it is the end of the road for his side in the Champions Cup.
This weekend’s final match against Stade Francais at Loftus Versfeld will either be for a place in the Challenge Cup or to exit both competitions altogether as they cannot still qualify for the playoffs in the Investec Champions Cup.
To qualify for the Top 16 in the EPCR Challenge Cup the Bulls must keep Stade Francais from scoring a log point, earn 5 log points and beat Stade Francais by more than forty-four points.
“I think it is done because we’ve got no points and every other team has points.”
“It is only Stade Francais that is an option. We can’t catch Castres even if we beat them. So I think the Champions Cup is over for us."
“It is one thing about the campaign and Champions Cup. You’ve seen it with all the teams when you get it wrong."
“Stade Francais beat Northampton and they are second last in the Top 14 and they beat the team that won the Premiership last year."
“It just highlights how difficult it is to advance in this competition."
“What we are going to do is worry about our performance in the next week and make sure we get momentum going into the URC,” White said.
