URC: Etzebeth Brilliance and Late Intercept Try Seal Dramatic Win for Sharks over Leinster

3 October 2026

The Hollywoodbets Sharks maintained their unbeaten run in the 2026/27 United Rugby Championship with a gritty 26-20 victory over Leinster on Saturday evening. In a physical clash defined by heavy collisions and disciplinary swings, the hosts dug deep to secure a vital bonus-point win.

The visitors asked all the questions early on, launching a relentless assault on the hosts' tryline. Robbie Henshaw eventually cracked the defensive wall in the 17th minute, dotting down after sustained pressure before Caspar Gabriel added the extras.

The Durbanites refused to panic and slowly clawed their way back into the contest. Opting for a scrum from a penalty right in front of the posts, Jaden Hendrikse sniped in the 26th minute before offloading to a charging Manu Tshituka to level the scores.

Discipline proved costly for the Irish giants just before the break when prop Thomas Clarkson was sent to the sin-bin after 39 minutes of play. The Sharks immediately exploited the extra man on the stroke of halftime, spreading the ball wide for Lili Bester to dot down in the corner to lead 14-7 at the halftime break.

Leinster fired back fiercely after the break with a powerful, bulldozing surge from the returning Thomas Clarkson in the 49th minute to narrow the deficit. The momentum officially shifted in the 66th minute when Sam Prendergast slotted a clutch penalty, edging the visitors into a slender 15-14 lead.

Needing a spark, Eben Etzebeth unlocked the defence of Leinster with a monstrous linebreak, handling twice before offloading to Andre Esterhuizen for a crucial five-pointer in the 72nd minute. The Sharks then secured their four-try bonus point spectacularly as Edwill van der Merwe intercepted a loose pass to race away with just two minutes left on the clock, and led 26-15.

Leinster refused to leave empty-handed and launched one final attack from a late lineout. A pinpoint Sam Prendergast kick-pass found Andrew Osborne in the corner in the 80th minute, securing a vital losing bonus point on the final whistle.

The Sharks deservedly won 26-20.
