The Sharks U20 GEN secured a hard-fought 48–34 victory over the Toyota Cheetahs U20 in a high-scoring, action-packed encounter that saw momentum swing dramatically across both halves.
The Sharks struck first in the 5th minute when Luann Olivier crossed the line for his opening try, which Iwan Jordaan successfully converted. The Cheetahs responded twenty minutes later, executing a brilliant play that allowed Donelle Hendriks to score, with Heinz Stockenstrom adding the extra two points.
Although the Sharks instantly hit back through a William Ridl try to regain the lead, the Cheetahs managed to steal the advantage just before the break. Mokgaotsi Mosiane dotted down in the 37th minute, and Stockenstrom's successful conversion ensured the Toyota Cheetahs headed into half-time leading 14–12.
The Cheetahs looked to consolidate their lead early in the second half, executing a triple tactical substitution that immediately paid off when replacement Dian Venter scored in the 47th minute. However, the Sharks quickly wrestled back control of the game.
Luann Olivier scored his second try in the 51st minute, followed closely by a Rambo Kubekha five-pointer in the 57th minute. With Jordaan reliably converting both, the Sharks surged into a dominant lead.
The Cheetahs briefly answered back with a try from substitute H.G. Muller, but the Sharks effectively sealed the result in the 72nd minute when Olivier completed a spectacular hat-trick, pushing the Sharks' scoreline to 48 points.
The Cheetahs refused to back down in the closing stages of the match. Mosiane grabbed his second try of the afternoon in the 78th minute, which Stockenstrom quickly converted.
As the game entered extra time, the Cheetahs earned a final opportunity to close the gap. Stockenstrom successfully slotted a penalty kick in the 83rd minute to bring the final whistle score to 48–34 in favour of the Sharks.
