The Sharks U20 GEN secured a convincing 38-19 victory over the Leopards U20 following a dominant, star-turning performance from hooker Clinton Agu.
The Sharks established their dominance early in the first half. Clinton Agu opened the scoring in the 7th minute with an unconverted try to put the hosts ahead 05-00. Agu struck again in the 29th minute, crossing the line for his second try of the afternoon, which flyhalf Iwan Jordaan successfully converted to extend the lead to 12-00. Just before the break, Divan Fourie capitalised on the Sharks' momentum to score a 34th-minute try. Jordaan's conversion attempt drifted wide, leaving the halftime score at 17-00 in favour of the Sharks.
The Sharks picked up right where they left off in the second half. Iwan Jordaan turned from playmaker to try-scorer in the 44th minute, dotting down and converting his own try to stretch the lead to a commanding 24-0.
Faced with a heavy deficit, the Leopards rang the changes with a flurry of tactical substitutions, which sparked a spirited mid-half fightback. Replacement Zuan Rautenbach broke the duck for the visitors in the 51st minute with a try, converted by Marno Greeff. Just three minutes later, fellow substitute Marcwin Nero crossed the whitewash to cut the deficit to 24-12, though Greeff missed the subsequent conversion.
Any hopes of a dramatic Leopards comeback were quickly dashed by Agu. In the 58th minute, the clinical winger completed his hat-trick with a spectacular try. Jordaan added the extra two points from the tee, restoring a comfortable 31-12 cushion for the Sharks.
The Leopards continued to fight late into the game, rewarding their efforts in the 77th minute when David Ndala scored under the posts. Greeff added the conversion to bring the score to 31-19 as the match entered its final moments.
However, the Sharks ensured they had the final say in stoppage time. In the 81st minute, substitute Cruzz Davey powered over the line for a late try, and Jordaan capped off a fine personal performance by slotting the conversion to seal a comprehensive 38-19 bonus-point win for the Sharks U20.
