Vodacom Bulls U20 Hold Off Fidelity ADT Lions U20 In Derby Thriller To Remain Unbeaten

The Vodacom Bulls U20 secured a hard-fought 29–22 victory over the Fidelity ADT Golden Lions U20 in an action-packed SA Rugby U20 Cup encounter at Loftus Versfeld. In a match defined by momentum shifts, the Bulls established an early lead but had to fend off an incredibly resilient Lions outfit.

With this result, the young men from Pretoria remain the only unbeaten team left in the competition. Despite spending significant periods of the match down to 14 men due to two separate yellow cards, the Bulls' clinical finishing ultimately made the difference.

The Bulls got off to a flying start when Elwin Jansen Van Vuuren crossed the whitewash just two minutes into the game. Ruben Pienaar added the conversion and a subsequent penalty to storm into a quick 10–00 lead.

The Lions responded with a Jeandre Uithaler penalty before Hendré Schoeman scored the Bulls' second try. The Lions quickly struck back when Lindelani Nkambule scored his first try of the afternoon, converted by Uithaler, to narrow the margin.

Even when Bulls player Migael Turner was sent to the sin bin, the shorthanded Bulls showed immense grit. Chinedu Amadi scored a critical shorthanded try to help guide his team to a 22–10 lead at the halftime break.

The second half turned into a tactical battle, characterised by a flurry of substitutions. The Bulls faced another disciplinary setback when Ethan Van Dyk received a yellow card, and the Lions immediately capitalised with Lindelani Nkambule crashing over for his second try.

However, the Bulls showed remarkable resilience. Immediately after serving his time in the sin bin, Van Dyk redeemed himself by scoring a crucial try, which Liyema Nela converted to push the score to 29–15.

A grandstand finish was set up when Likhona Kepe scored a late converted try for the Lions. Ultimately, the Bulls held firm in the dying minutes to seal their seven-point victory and cement their status as the tournament's sole undefeated powerhouse.
