The waiting is finally over. After a temporary pause to allow South Africa’s elite schoolboy talent to return from the U18 International Series, the premier division of the Virseker Noordvaal Cup takes centre stage today, Tuesday, 18 August 2026. Four 1stXV teams remain, but only two can book their tickets to the highly anticipated Grand Final on Saturday, 22 August 2026.
Based on recent regular-season form lines, tactical squad additions, and knockout momentum, the stage is set for a thrilling afternoon of schoolboy rugby. The first semifinal features a fierce local West Rand derby as Hoërskool Monument hosts Hoërskool Noordheuwel at the intimidating Ras van Rooyen field.
On paper, Monument enters the match as the overwhelming favourite. They welcome back two SA U18 international playmakers in tournament-leading point-scorer Jaydon Viljoen at flyhalf and the dangerous Ruan Genis at scrumhalf. By contrast, Noordheuwel has endured a deeply frustrating 2026 campaign, dropping 10 of their 18 matches across all competitions.
However, Monnas' defensive structures have shown a worrying tendency to expose soft points in transition this season. While Monnas blew Nories away 41–15 in May, that game was deadlocked at a 13–10 knife-edge before a Noordheuwel red card blew the floodgates open. If Noordheuwel's loose trio can slow the breakdown and exploit these defensive gaps early on, they can cause serious friction.
Ultimately, the return of Viljoen and Genis gives Monnas too much tactical control in the kicking department. Shielded by an aggressive home crowd, the Krugersdorp giants are predicted to march into the final with a hard-earned 15-point victory.
The second semifinal is an all-Pretoria blockbuster featuring a rampant Garsfontein machine looking to secure a historic fourth consecutive Noordvaal Cup crown. Having already lifted the ultimate trophy in 2023, 2024, and 2025, a "four-peat" would place the "Bere" in an ultra-elite bracket of historical schoolboy dominance. The team has lost just two matches all year and enters the playoffs on a blistering 9-match winning streak.
Their star-studded roster gets an immediate injection of world-class muscle with the return of SA U18 main-team heavyweights Ruben Lombard at prop and Stefan van der Vyver at flank, alongside the lethal SA U18 'A' outside back Drewyn Baron. Conversely, Waterkloof is stumbling across the finish line on a deflating 2-match losing streak, despite a solid overall season framework of 11 wins from 17 matches.
Klofies will receive a massive emotional and structural boost as head coach Cobus van Dyk returns to the head coach's box following his national coaching duties, but Garsfontein is simply operating on another planet right now. Garsfontein already ground out a tough 24–18 away win against Klofies back in May, and coming off a recent 76–05 demolition of EG Jansen, they look entirely untouchable on their own turf.
Garsfontein's fast, expansive brand of rugby is predicted to break Waterkloof down comfortably, cruising into the final with a margin of around 22 points as they take the penultimate step toward their date with rugby destiny. Barring a sports miracle of historic proportions in Pretoria or a total defensive collapse in Krugersdorp, the regular-season form lines will hold tomorrow afternoon.
The prediction for the 2026 NoordVaal Cup Grand Final on Saturday, 22 August, will see the historic championship momentum of Hoërskool Garsfontein clash against the physical home-ground power of Hoërskool Monument.
