Second-Half Blitz Crowns Dotsure SWD Eagles 2026 Carling Currie Cup First Division Champions

The Dotsure SWD Eagles were crowned 2026 Carling Currie Cup First Division champions after a brutal second-half surge secured a dominant 41-21 victory over the Valke at Outeniqua Park in George.

Heyneke Meyer’s clinical Eagles exploited defensive lapses and ruled the set-pieces. The result consigns the Valke to a second consecutive final heartbreak following their 2025 defeat.

The hosts launched wave after wave of early attacks. The pressure told in the eighth minute when SWD spread the ball wide, sending Niel Beukes cruising over in the corner. Five minutes later, an unstoppable driving maul allowed hooker Janus Venter to crash over, pushing the lead to 12-00.

The Valke hit back after a dominant maul of their own, shifting the ball wide to Mbembe Payi for their opening try. Sergio Stalmeester converted to narrow the gap to five points.

SWD responded instantly. Scrumhalf Xavier Swartbooi sniped off the back of a lineout, exposing a gap in the Valke defence to score.

Despite Valke dominating the remainder of the half, they struggled to convert territory into points. However, on the stroke of halftime, Zeilinga Strydom sliced the Eagles' defence open after a perfectly timed pass, leaving the game finely poised at 19-14 at the break.

The Eagles took ultimate control after the interval. Eight minutes into the second half, Ulrich Wahl powered over the line, followed shortly by a Divan du Toit penalty to stretch the lead to 29-14.

As the game wore on, the SWD tight five began to dismantle the Valke scrum.

With 22 minutes played in the half, Wahl drilled a clever grubber kick that Rune Lucas controlled perfectly to slide over for SWD's fifth try.

Now in complete control, Swartbooi turned playmaker, delivering a sharp pass to Divan du Toit who crashed through to score. Du Toit converted his own try to cap a brilliant individual kicking performance and seal the championship at 41-14.

Valke's Tylor Sefoor scored and converted a consolation try with six minutes remaining, but it was too little, too late. The day belonged to the SWD Eagles, who cap off a phenomenal season as rightful champions.
