Rassie Erasmus, Springbok coach, was full of praise for RG Snyman, who will play in his 50th test for the Springboks off the bench in the same city in which he plies his trade for Leinster.
Normally, RG Snyman would have started the test, something the Boks normally do when a player reaches a milestone. However, Erasmus explained it was necessary due to the dynamics of the available locks.
Erasmus said that the uncertainty regarding the availability of Franco Mostert and Lood de Jager forced his hand, which resulted in RG Snyman being named on the bench.
“It would’ve been lovely to start him on Saturday, but he knows his role off the bench.”
“We chatted about it, and playing off the bench in his 50th, he totally understands. With two of the other locks unavailable and one injured, he was obviously always going to be in the team, and for that he is grateful.”
“We are thrilled for RG, and we’ll do everything we can to hopefully make this a special occasion for him.
“He’s a great player and team man, and had it not been for injuries along the way, he would have probably earned 50 caps a while ago. He deserves this achievement, and it speaks volumes about the quality of the player he is.”
