The SA Rugby U21 Cup’s round eight action saw the Fidelity ADT Lions take revenge for their round 3 loss against DHL WP at Ellis Park on Friday. In Saturday’s two fixtures, the Toyota Cheetahs dominated the Leopards in Bloemfontein, while the Hollywoodbets Sharks did the double against the Vodacom Bulls in Pretoria.
Fidelity ADT Lions 45-24 DHL WP
The match was played at a frenetic pace, with the Lions scoring their first of three tries in the second half after just seven minutes of play in the first half when Asemahle Nongogo scored his first of three tries in the first half. Dominic Malgas and Asad Moos added their name to the score-sheet for the Western Province. The Lions led 19-14 at the end of the first half.
The Lions and WP did trade early penalties; however, the Lions scored three tries within seven minutes late in the second half to secure a 45-24 win.
Toyota Cheetahs 40-26 Leopards
Six tries were scored in the first half, with the Cheetahs scoring the first two tries within the first ten minutes of the first half. The Cheetahs led 31-14 at the halftime break. Two yellow cards shown later in the second half gave the Leopards an edge to win the second half 12-09.
Vodacom Bulls 33-35 Hollywoodbets Sharks
The Vodacom Bulls scored two late tries in the first half to lead 26-14 at the end of the first half. The second half was dominated by the Sharks, who scored three tries to lead 35-26 with ten minutes still to play in the second half. The Bulls threw everything they had, and eventually it was Lukas Meyer who dotted down for the Bulls with time up on the clock. Liam Koen converted; however, it was a little too late for the hosts.
