The leadership structures of Western Province Rugby are united in their support of DHL Western Province ahead of their Carling Currie Cup semifinal on Friday.
Both the Western Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU) and Western Province Professional Rugby (WPPR) are squarely behind the team as they face the defending champion Vodacom Bulls in their play-off match in Pretoria on Friday night.
Despite some significant challenges in an extraordinary season, DHL Western Province have shown considerable pride in the blue and white hooped jersey and playing their hearts out for their Faithful supporters on their way to the semifinal.
Having found themselves needing a bonus-point win in Durban last week, DHL Western Province delivered an inspired showcase of the fluid rugby the region is known for, scoring five tries to secure their play-off spot in fine style.
WPRFU president Zelt Marais said that the entire rugby community in the Western Cape, as well as DHL Western Province supporters around the country, will be willing the team on.
"We are a region with a proud rugby history and a strong rugby culture, so to see our team in the semifinals means a lot. The passion that our people have for our game and our team is unrivalled and we know that the players will be giving everything to make them proud," he said.
WPPR Chairman Ebrahim Rasool said that the DHL Western Province team is the greatest unifying force there is among the various structures.
"The DHL Western Province team is the glue that binds us all together and we want them to know that they have the full support of all of us on Friday night.
"The team and the coaching staff have already achieved their performance objectives in some of the most challenging circumstances of any Carling Currie Cup campaign, but we know that they will leave nothing out there on the pitch as they aim to make us all proud in what should be a classic match against our old rivals in Pretoria," he said.
DHL Western Province Head Coach John Dobson said that the team is eager to repay the support of all stakeholders.
"As a team we take pride in what we represent and mean to so many people. We have incredible supporters, sponsors and staff who want nothing but success for our side and we have a chance to show them what that means to us this weekend," he said.
