World Sports Betting To Sponsor Carlton League

For the first time in decades, the Carlton League will have a title sponsor, it was announced in Tshwane on Thursday, March 10. World Sports Betting has joined forces as the title sponsor of the Premier Blue Bulls Rugby Club League.

Blue Bulls Rugby Union (BBRU) president, Willem Strauss, indicated that the partnership is another step in commercialising the World Sports Betting Carlton League, which forms an important part of the Vodacom Bulls’ talent-producing pipeline.

Strauss also emphasised that all contracted players of the Vodacom Bulls are allocated to local clubs which also affords opportunities for some of the fringe players to gain valuable game time at club level. He further confirmed that following the success of last year’s Carlton League final, which was broadcast live on national television channel, SABC 2, to a massive audience, a substantial number of matches of the World Sports Betting Carlton League will also be broadcast this season.

According to the BBRU president, club rugby in Tshwane and Limpopo is once again regaining prominence and continues to form part of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union’s value system.

“The World Sports Betting Carlton League teams have doubled over the past few years,” Strauss pointed out.

“Outstanding Under-20 leagues were also initiated, while there are also plans to create opportunities for the Platteland teams of Limpopo and Tshwane as part of our overall plan to grow and develop the game of rugby in the region.”

Ryno du Plessis, Chief Marketing Manager of World Sports Betting, expressed his excitement over this partnership.

“For us, this is a great opportunity to get involved in an often-overlooked part of the professional rugby world. We are proud to be associated with grassroots rugby and the development of the sport in South Africa.

“This is something that we are very passionate about as a brand. This is not simply an extension of our standing Vodacom Bulls sponsorship. For us, this is a whole new way of putting our brand behind the sport nationally. We are excited to be working with the Blue Bulls Rugby Union as well as SEI team on this sponsorship. Fans can look forward to some exciting initiatives.”

Strauss also announced that the World Sports Betting Easter Festival will take place in Tshwane over the Easter Weekend.

Seven World Sports Betting Carlton League clubs, excluding UP Tuks who are participating in the Varsity Club, will play friendlies against various teams across South Africa, which will include, among others, Durbell, College Rovers, Welkom, PE Harlequins, Raiders, Brakpan and Witbank Rugby Club.

“This is another initiative to raise the profile of club rugby and create exposure and opportunities for players, coaches and commercial partners”, said Strauss.

Some of the matches will be played at Loftus Versfeld A-field, with the rest taking place at Harlequin and Pretoria Rugby Clubs.

The World Sports Betting Easter Festival will form part of Pretoria Harlequin Rugby Club’s 120th anniversary.

According to Dr Eugene Hare, CEO of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union, the World Sports Betting Easter Festival will be great preparation for the participating teams ahead of the start of the World Sports Betting Carlton League on the 7th May 2022.
