With So Much Smoke Their Must Be A Fire – John Dobson

The reaction from Western Province Rugby Union regarding the rumours of several stars leaving is as puzzling as the state of their negotiations with MVM Holdings for a controlling share of the professional arm that "own" the Stormers.

There have been several reports/rumours that a number of the Stormers’ senior players are unwilling to negotiate contract extensions with the WPRFU beyond next year’s British and Irish Lions tour, because of the uncertainty over the MVM deal.

Media reports suggest that negotiations between MVM and WPRFU have stalled and that MVM is currently in negotiations with the Sharks.

Springbok captain, Siya Kolisi who is managed by Roc Nation is apparently linked with a move to the Sharks. Roc Nation is a partner in the MVM bid and represented MVM during the negotiations with the WPRU.

Zelt Marais, president of the WPRU remained adamant that Kolisi will not depart from his Cape Town base. In an interview with Rugby365 he said " Siya Kolisi is going nowhere,"

“Western Province has invested heavily in Siya Kolisi – possibly more than any other player – over the years, since Under-19 and is committed to keeping Siya Kolisi at least until the 2027 World Cup.”

Western Province head coach John Dobson confirmed in a media interview he did ask Kolisi if they need to discuss the rumours. Kolisi's reply was that they must first concentrate on the Pumas game on Friday according to Dobson.

Dobson also confirmed that he is aware of several players that were approached recently with the move of Damian Willemse to the Bulls the worst kept secret.

One of the players that Dobson confirmed was the lock, David Meihuizen. Meihuizen who is currently being hunted by Scotland was selected for the game against the Pumas to ensure he gets more game-time which will hopefully influence his decision in the long run according to Dobson.
