Loose forward Willie Engelbrecht has signed a two-year contract with the DHL Stormers and will join up with the squad in July.
The imposing Engelbrecht featured for the DHL Stormers on loan last year, making a big impression with his physicality on both attack and defence.
He joins the likes of Stefan Ungerer and Junior Pokomela in turning a successful loan spell in Cape Town into a two-year contract.
Engelbrecht, who can play any position in the loose trio, said that he cannot wait to join up with the DHL Stormers again.
“I really enjoyed my time with the DHL Stormers last year and I’m really looking forward to getting myself settled in Cape Town with the team.
“The squad has already achieved some incredible things this season and I am excited about being a part of the future,” he said.
DHL Stormers Head Coach John Dobson said that a player of Engelbrecht’s undeniable quality will strengthen the squad further.
“We have seen what Willie can do, there are few loose forward around as physical as him, but he also brings some nice touches to the game when he needs to.
“In order to win rugby games your forward pack needs to be on the front foot and that is what you get with Willie, so we are looking forward to seeing the impact he makes here,” he said.
