The Emirates Lions confirmed that Willem Alberts was in close contact with a Covid-19 case and will therefore go into quarantine. Although Alberts was tested on Monday and cleared he will be replaced by Ruben Schoeman in the starting line-up.
Ivan van Rooyen, head coach of the Emirates Lions announced his squad on Thursday with only one change (excluding Alberts) for their match against the DHL Western Province in the second round of the Vodacom Super Rugby Unlocked series at Newlands on Saturday @ 19h00.
The Emirates Lions are currently on the 5th spot on the competition log after a 16-19 loss against the Cell C Sharks last weekend in Durban. The Cell C Sharks dominated early proceedings while the Emirates Lions ended the stronger team, just not able to secure the win at the final minutes of the game.
After a sterling performance by Morné vd Berg, he gets to start in the place of injured Dillon Smit who could be on the sideline for 4 months.
