In an impossible task, we selected our eight up and coming stars that impressed us during the recent Super Rugby Unlocked and Carling Currie Cup Championships.

The decision by SARU to stay in South Africa was praised by us with the eye on the advantages the junior players will get to play with and against the seasoned stars. Several youngsters caught the eye during the delayed season with one or two who may be included in the Springbok squad to play against the British & Irish Lions in July.

Forwards:

Dylan Richardson definately my pick of the forwards. A young man that showed he is able to mix it against the seasoned players.

JJ van der Mesht impressed me with his newly found physicality and could become SA's new enforcer. JJ still has a lot to work on but could become one of SA Rugby's greats if he continues to grow into the role of an "enforcer"

Jaco Visagie got a new lease on life with his move to the Lions. He is a serious contender if a Bok squad is to be announced today.

Ruan Nortje established himself as a great lock within the Bulls pack. Ruan is quickly becoming the "full package" at lock and even as a loosie.

We discuss the up and coming stars of the 2020/21 season

Backs

Eduan Keyter used his opportunities to shine in a Griquas team to become the top try scorer in the Carling Currie Cup. A workhorse who scored his tries after looking for work.

Wandisile Simelane was one of few backline players in South African rugby who have "magic".

Rikus Pretorius was the star in an average Western Province backline.
