What To Expect From Day 1 @ St Stithians College Festival

09h45 - St Andrew's College 39-10 St David's

Preview

St Andrews started their season off with a convincing victory against Union 66-10 followed up with a win against Hudon park 31-7 at the Graeme's Festival. Two weeks ago they lost against the touring Bishops 29-21. St David's season started with two losses with the one against St Alban's 14-17 a very close affair. Their second loss came against St Stithians 10-15 and then they demolished St Benedict's 41-18. St Andrew's showed at the Graeme festival that the love to run the ball and when they do run with the ball they cause havoc. So an easy win for St Andrew's if I can use st Stithians vs st John's as a yardstick

11h00 - St Benedict's 6-36 Maritzburg College

Preview

St Benedict's are having a nightmare of a season losing 15-17 against Zwartkop. Then followed their only win 63-7 against Springs whereafter they lost against Parktown 17-36, St John's 19-28 and then 18-41 against st David's. Maritzburg College's season this far will be remembered for the bigger than human effort they put in against Grey College 3-30 after everybody, including myself, expected a major hiding. As it is expected that the wet weather will prevail Maritzburg College must be the favourite as they are used to it and I believe their season will improve with every match.

Match Report

12h15 - St Alban's 24-22 DHS

Preview

DHS under the coaching of Mr Mathie is improving with every match. Their season started off with a win against Pionier 35-7, a loss against Westville 18-12, win against Northwood 82-0, a loss against Hilton 6-10 and wins against Port Natal 36-3 and Voortrekker PMB 50-0. St Alban's had a better start drawing against Ben Vorster 10-10, winning both St David's 17-14 and Sutherland 58-0 before losing against KES 33-17. Taking into account the quality of opposition I do believe that DHS should win this one.

Durban High School 22 (14) - Tries: Christopher Coleman, Phendulani Buthelezi, Sanele Nohamba. Conversions: Nohamba (2). Penalty: Nohamba.

13:30 - Saints BC vs Graeme College

Preview

Saints had to have a hard look at themselves and their players after the loss to St John's 25-17. Their season started off with a loss against Jeppe 23-26 and a win against St David's 15-10 before the match against st John's. Graeme College, on the other hand, may have lost their only game against Selborne 15-20 but showed in that match that they have a quality side that can beat most top sides on a given day. Their team reminds me a lot of st John's team that I saw last Saturday, 15 tigers on the field scared of nobody and nothing. Graeme to win this one.

Match Report

St Stithians College 19 (6) - Tries: JP Bloem, Shane Lindsay. Penalties: Keagan Lailvaux (2), Deon Fourie.

Graeme College 17 (10) - Tries: Mike Ntwanambi, Cameron Amos, Odwa Basson. Conversion: Sivuyisiwe Ngqiyaza.

14:45 - SACS 28-0 Michaelhouse

Preview

Then the big one of the day. SACS have this year a team that everybody in the Western Province regards as good enough to at least beat one of the top four of the whinelands. They already have the scalp of Boland Landbou 10-5 but they will be quick to remind all that it was at the Newlands Rugby Day where no kicks were allowed. Their only other match was against Ligbron 60-14 at the Tony Stoops Rugby Festival. Michaelhouse only had one match against Westville and won 24-18. SACS must be the favourite even if it is only due to my personal gut feeling.

Match Report

SACS 28 (21) - Tries: Lucky Dlepu, David Hayes, Michael Abrahams, Ben Mazullo. Conversions: Jordy Hop (4).

Michaelhouse 0

16:00 - Grey PE 27-8 Westville Boys' HS

Preview

Westville have three wins from four matches winning DHS 18-12, Voortrekker PMB 17-7 and Northwood 36-10. Their only loss was against Michaelhouse in their second last match 18-24. Grey PE drew in their only match against Framesby 11-11 at the Graeme Rugby Day. Grey showed that they are well-prepared for the season at Graeme's and plays a well-planned game with each boy who knows their job. A bit dull but I believe them to be too strong for Westville
