Westville Boys’ High School Appoints Director Of Rugby


Beyond the realm of his rugby pedigree, is a warmness and genuine caring that places our new Director of Rugby in a position to not just be a figurehead in sport, but also to coach the minds of our boys on the field and in the classroom.
Ivan Jooste has a string of rugby credentials which led to his elevation within WBHS to Director of Rugby and we congratulate him on this well-deserved position.
He comes with a flawless rugby background having played for and coached various XV’s and 7's teams since his days at the University of Johannesburg, where he played rugby for three years, after playing 1ST XV for Hoerskool Hugenote for two years. He also represented the U19 Currie Cup Team.
It was in 7’s where his rugby brilliance shown through the most, and he has represented teams like the Blue Bulls, Lions and the SA Emerging 7’s team. Professionally, he played for the Abruzzo Team in Italy.
As a coach, he has led Zwartkop, Centurion and Garsforntein. Ivan was also appointed as the Blue Bulls 7’s coach in 2018 and as the Sharks U17 7’s team coach in 2019. He more recently coached the WBHS 1st XV team with Njabulo Zulu.
“We have no doubt that Ivan is going to add massive value to our rugby programme and we are excited for the future of rugby at Westville Boys’ High School,” said Acting Director of Sport, Pam Hayward.
He is the subject head for Life Orientation, the student development centre and the school counselling department. He is also an integral member of our school’s leadership programme.
With his degree in Education from UJ and his certification as a counsellor with further studying for wellness counselling, Ivan has shown in his time at WBHS that he has a heart for helping boys at the School.
