The DHL Stormers, who dominates this week's selections are the only team that currently gives some hope for our Clubs' travelling overseas again later in February.
The Vodacom Bulls "struggled" against a "better" but still struggling Emirates Lions, while the Cell C Sharks hopefully have reached their lowest point this season.
At fullback Warrick Gelant was a star for the Stormers being the catalyst of several attacking opportunities. One must feel sorry for Aphelele Fassie who tried but yes .....
On the wing, the young Canan Moodie showed some great glimpses of what is still to come from this young star. Seabelo Senatla showed his exciting talent, however, Madosh Tambwe can count him unlucky not to have made the cut this week.
Lukhanyo Am again showed why he is rated as a world star and was a lonely star in a dull backline of the Sharks full of international stars. Dan du Plessis showed some brilliant touches as he cut the defence of the Sharks into pieces, maybe the best player in the Stormers backline.
The selection of Tiaan Swanepoel and Andre Warner as a combination showed the lack of performance of the rest of the other teams' halfbacks. Swanepoel and Warner steered the Lions through a difficult match with precision.
Elrigh Louw selection should be no surprise with Hacjivah Dayimani also warranted a mention. Ernst van Rhyn is improving with leaps and bounds and easily stepped into the role of Evan Roos as an aggressive and effective ball carrier for the Stormers while Deon Fourie's performance must make him the player of the weekend.
Ruben Schoeman who had to single-handedly secure quality lineout ball for the Lions against a well oiled Bulls outfit, also found some extra energy to be the Lions' main ball carrier. Ruan Nortje at this stage is hands down the best lock in South Africa and should get a nod if a Springbok squad is selected on performance.
The front row of Harris, Ntubeni and Kitshoff was great in the scrums and also did more than their share in the loose.
The Stormers have eight, the Lions three, the Bulls three and the Sharks one representatives in this week's VURC team.
VURC Team of the Week: 15. Warrick Gelant (Stormers), 14. Canan Moodie (Bulls), 13. Lukhanyo Am (Sharks), 12. Dan du Plessis (Stormers), 11. Seabelo Senatla (Stormers), 10. Brok Harris (Stormers), 2. Scarra Ntubeni (Stormers), 1. Steven Kitshoff (Stormers).
