The Varsity Cup again showed that the abundance of talent in South African rugby is absolutely mind-boggling. The Ruggas.co.za panel discussed all the games and ended up with a list of 40 - 50 names who can all claim a spot in our matchday 23.
The backline is dominated by the 2021 Champions, Tukkies but several players need to be acknowledged for their efforts. Players who did not make our final 23 but still deserved a place is Ngia Selengbe (Wits), David Brits (Maties) and Johannes Klink (Shimlas).
A brilliant Clyde Lewis made it easy to go for a 5:3 split at the back as he is easily in the top three candidates at the centre, wing and fullback as well as very comfortable at scrumhalf..
Our backline players including replacements are:
15. Zander du Plessis (UP), 14. Stefan Coetzee (UP), 13. Shane Bolton (UFS), 12. Louritz vd Schyff (UP), 11. Prince Nkabinde (UJ), 10. James Tedder (UCT) and 9. Johan Mulder (UP). Replacements: 21. Clyde Lewis (UP), 22. Charles Williams (CUT), 23. Cohen Jasper (CUT).
A lot of discussion regarding the individual players and also the unlucky players per position
