With the coastal Clubs dominating the local Vodacom United Rugby Championship it only makes sense that they will dominate our weekly team of the week, however, the pack of the Lions and Bulls did do more than their share to be included in our starting fifteen.
Warrick Gelant's name can be penned in even before the actions started, however, David Kriel would have been my choice had it not been for his off the ball action during the match. The sanctions following a good "klap" saved him several times on Saturday.
On the wing, the Stormers duo was brilliant behind a well oiled Stormers pack. Madosh Tambwe again showed he know his way to the try-line and therefore gets my nod at #11 ahead of a brilliant Seabelo Senatla.
Lukanyo Am again delivered in style while Burger Odendaal again showed why is so highly rated.
The selection of Manie Libbok who had his moments of brilliance, unfortunately, also just highlighted the lack of a world-class flyhalf plying his trade in South Africa.
At nine I sat with a problem. Jaden Hendrickse was excellent, unfortunately, as with David Kriel, his off the ball behaviour forced me to not select him. Zak Burger's physicality played a big part in the Bulls' pack of forwards "success" and deserves his inclusion.
One of the silent heroes in the Lions lineup must be Francke Horn at the back of the scrum. He worked tirelessly to stop the wave after wave attacks from the Stormers. The massive and physical work of Elrigh Louw always impresses but this time my vote had to go to Francke.
The two men on the side of the scrum will always be decided on what the "selector" want from these players. Deon Fourie is busy paving his way to Springbok selection while Arno Botha did some massive work for the Bulls.
Ruan Nortje is looking more and more like a shoo-in for Springbok selection while hard man Gerbrand Grobler did the physical work that is expected from an international #4 lock.
The Lion's front row is currently the best in the country with Carlu Sadie the anchor. Sadie did more than is normally asked of a tight head. Stormers captain was all over on the field and although his performance in the scrum was suspect against Sadie his work rate must make him an automatic selection.
Bongi Mbonambi is continuing to show why he is highly rated worldwide.
Surprisingly the Stormers have 5 players in our team, while the Bulls have 4, Sharks have 3 and the Lions also have 3 players in our team.
VURC Team of the Week: 15. Warrick Gelant (Stormers), 14. Sergeal Petersen (Stormers), 13. Lukanyo Am (Sharks), 12. Burger Odendaal (Lions), 11. Madosh Tambwe (Bulls), 10: Manie Libbok (Stormers), 9. Zak Burger (Bulls), 8. Francke Horn (Lions), 7. Arno Botha (Bulls), 6. Deon Fourie (Stormers), 5. Ruan Nortje (Bulls), 4. Gerbrandt Grobler (Sharks), 3. Carlu Sadie (Lions), 2. Bongi Mbonambi (Sharks), 1. Steven Kitshoff (Stormers).
