The 2021 Currie Cup season started on the 18th of June 2021 when the Pumas surprised in all in beating the Sigma Lions with 39-10. This upset became the norm of the competition with the "minnows" becoming a serious threat to the four "franchises".
To select a team from the 2021 Currie Cup season has become an exercise where personal preferences and admittingly some emotion may have had more of an influence than was necessary.
However, since the completion of the Currie Cup, several of the players were given opportunities at the "Big Four" and abroad, vindicating the selection of these players in the Currie Cup 2021 team.
