Walt Steenkamp’s Future In Doubt After Heart Surgery

Vodacom Bulls' Lock Walt Steenkamp underwent a heart operation on Thursday after an electrocardiogram was done on Steenkamp as part of COVID19 return to play protocols. It was found the Steenkamp's heart was out of its usual rhythm and needed corrective surgery. 

Steenkamp, one of several players that were recently tested positive for the Covid19 virus was generally accepted to be selected as the partner of Ruan Nortje at lock for the semi-final and final of the Carling Currie Cup.

Director of rugby, Jake White said during the team announcement for their semi-final against the Xerox Lions, that Steenkamp was not available to play as he has not fully recovered from COVID19. 

Steenkamp (25) joined the Vodacom Bulls in 2020 from the Toyota Cheetahs late last year.
