The New Nation Pumas hosted the Vodacom Bulls in the opening match of the 2022 Currie Cup in Nelspruit. The Bulls controlled most of the game in sometimes pouring rain to beat a game Pumas team with 33-19.
An intriguing first half, with the Bulls starting the game in complete control. The Pumas' unforced errors helped the Bulls to dominate, however as the first half continued the host started to claw their way back into the game. The end of the first half had the Bulls on their own tryline defending against a Pumas whose self-belief is growing. The Bulls leading 11-03.
The second half was frustrating for both teams in the wet conditions with both sides making several unforced errors. Unfortunately, the mistakes cost both sides momentum and ended in a bit of a bore-fest. The Pumas team showed that they will be in the running for the playoffs of the 2022 Currie Cup while the Bulls will have to field an almost new team for their trip to Cape Town on Wednesday.
