The Jukskei Derby staged at Loftus Versfeld did not live up to the standards set by previous generations. The Vodacom Bulls won their third match in a row after beating the Fidelity ADT Lions 30-19.
After a stop-start first 20 minutes, Morne Steyn converted a penalty for the Vodacom Bulls to give them an early 03-00 lead.
The Vodacom Bulls slowly started to take control and a try by Jan-Hendrik Wessels was a result of their growing dominance. The Vodacom led 10-00 with 8 minutes of play left in the first half.
Chris Smit scored the Vodacom Bulls' second try as the home team is threatening to overrun the visitors. A dropgoal by Morne Steyn ended the first half in style as the Vodacom Bulls lead 20-00 going into the second half.
Morne Steyn opened the scoring in the second half with a penalty.
The Fidelity ADT Lions set up camp for ten minutes in the Vodacom Bulls red zone and eventually, Michael van Vuuren scored two tries in quick succession from the back of a 5m lineout maul.
The Vodacom Bulls led 23-12 with 15 minutes to go in the second half. Vodacom Bulls captain, Reinhardt Ludwig scored the Vodacom Bulls' 3rd try bulldozing his way over the tryline.
The Fidelity ADT Lions had the final say as Rynhardt Jonker score their third try. However, the Vodacom Bulls won 30-19.
