Round two of the 2021 Varsity Cup had excitement and a surprise or two for the supporters. This competition is set to become very interesting with some big ego's set to be brought back to earth.
Hooker André-Hugo Venter scored four tries as FNB Maties bounced back from their opening-round loss to FNB UCT with a comfortable win against FNB UWC (43-21) at the Tuks B-Field. FNB FNB Maties used their forwards effectively and scored five tries from lineout mauls. This was a physical encounter from the get-go, with three scrums in the first five minutes, but it was FNB Maties wing Munier Hartzenberg who scored the first try.
FNB CUT Ixias continued their fine start to the 2021 FNB Varsity Cup with a convincing 51-13 win against the FNB Madibaz. CUT arguable have the best pack of forwards in the Varsity Cup competition, however, their depth could become a problem. The Madibaz came back in the second half as soon as CUT replaced their front row. Two long-distance tries in the second half by CUT allowed them to get clear from a very game Madibaz team.
FNB UP-Tuks scored five tries against FNB UJ at the Tuks B-Field to claim a second consecutive bonus-point win with 47-19. TUKS showed that they must not be disregarded while UJ is seemingly content with the wooden spoon.
Flyhalf James Tedder produced another Player That Rocks performance as FNB UCT outplayed FNB Wits at Loftus Versfeld to win 40-22. The Ikeys is confidently and patiently on their way to be crowned as the winner of the 2021 Varsity Cup. They are a professional outfit that always remains calm on the attack as well as defence.

The FNB NWU Eagles fought back from 16-0 down to beat the FNB UFS Shimlas 33-22. A game that changed during the last 5 minutes of the first half. The FNB NWU Eagles scored two converted tries in that 5 minutes to trail with 14-16 at the break. Thereafter it was the Eagles that dominated all facets of the game.
