While the Emirates Lions will look to stick to their fast-paced, running game that has brought them success in their first two United Rugby Championship games of the 2024/25 season, they know they may have to adapt to a different approach in more trying conditions in the northern hemisphere against the Dragons RFC on Sunday at 15:30 (SA Time).
Assistant coach Barend Pieterse said that the Dragons RFC have a big pack that is also excellent at the breakdown.
"We will be prepared for anything, whatever the weather gives us on that day. We have dangerous backs and we as forwards, need to get good ball to them. I don't really think that we'll change much to our game plan from what we've been doing because it has been working for us."
Pieterse also said that they will be able to adapt to any conditions in Europe.
"I think if you look back at last season there were games we played the first half in sunny conditions and then suddenly after half time it's raining and we have to adapt. So we will be ready for everything."
"It doesn't matter if it's sunny or not sunny or whatever, we will be ready for anything on Sunday, ready if it's sunny and then like I said if it's windy or it's raining we'll just have to adapt to that."
Burly prop Asenathi Ntlabakanye said he is looking forward to the battle up front on Sunday, securing the ball the backline needs to score tries from.
"They've got a massive back. They pride themselves on the physical battles. It's a huge responsibility for us, we have to deliver that quick ball for the backs."
"So whether doing that is by tackling someone, by running over someone, by scrumming or at the line-outs, we are prepared to face and win the challenge."
