URC Team Of Week 4 – Only One Vodacom Bulls’ Player Included

 

Round 4 of the BKT United Rugby Championship delivered some outstanding individual performances. Here, we take a look at the best players by position from the weekend’s matches, with each side afforded a maximum of four representatives in the final XV.

15. Tiernan O'Halloran (Connacht)
The 32-year-old scored the first Connacht try as they were narrowly beaten by Edinburgh and the 213 metres gained by him so far this season sees him lie in eighth spot in the league.

14. Sebastian de Klerk (Vodacom Bulls) 
De Klerk scored one of the Bulls' tries in a hard-fought win at Cardiff and the 110 metres gained and two clean breaks was the most for the Bulls.

13. Rey Lee-Lo (Cardiff) 
The veteran crossed for Cardiff's second try and led the team with nine successful carries.

12. Charlie Ngatai (Leinster)
Scored one of five Leinster tries in a comfortable win at Dragons and his three clean breaks and 53 metres gained led his team.

11. Duhan van der Merwe (Edinburgh)
Was a thorn in the side of Connacht and led Edinburgh with two clean breaks, eight defenders beaten and 108 metres gained.

10. Ioan Lloyd (Scarlets)
He converted both tries and kicked three penalties as Scarlets suffered the narrowest of defeat to the Emirates Lions. His 68 metres gained and seven defenders beaten also led the team. Lies in seventh place in the league with 32 points over the opening four rounds.

9. Ben Vellacott (Edinburgh) 
Came off the bench to score one of the tries as Edinburgh handed Connacht their first defeat of the season.

8. James Culhane (Leinster)
Led Leinster with 17 tackles and three defenders beaten at Dragons. His 48 tackles over the season sees him lie in eighth place in the league with a success rate of 90 per cent.

7. Sione Vailanu (Glasgow) 
Scored a try as Glasgow secured a bonus-point victory over the Ospreys in Swansea and led the Warriors with seven successful carries, 15 tackles and a clean break.

6. David McCann (Ulster) 
Man-of-the-match performance up front as Ulster came from behind to beat Munster. He also leads the league this season with 64 tackles made with a success rate of 96 per cent and six turnovers won is also a URC best.

5. Grant Gilchrist (Edinburgh)
Led Edinburgh with 21 tackles with a strong defensive performance that saw them claim a late victory over Connacht.

4. Joe McCarthy (Leinster) 
Impressed as Leinster won the battle up front as they claimed a bonus-point victory over Dragons to move level on points with leaders the Vodacom Bulls.

3. Thomas Clarkson (Leinster)
Another Leinster forward to excel as the dominant forwards set the platform for the backs to shine at Dragons.

2. Johnny Matthews (Glasgow) 
Retains his place in the fantasy team of the week and scored two of Glasgow's four tries from the back of the maul, making him the URC's leading try scorer with five.

1. Allan Dell (Glasgow)
Came off the bench to score the bonus-point scoring try for Glasgow's win over Ospreys.
