Competition for places in our South African United Rugby Championship Team of the Week was not as strong after a bit of a disappointing Week 4 for South African franchises. Our players that could be included in the European Tour will be announced at 11h00 today and it will be interesting to see if any changes will be made.
The tough nature of the Vodacom United Rugby Championship was again underlined on the weekend where only the DHL Stormers managed a victory for the four South African franchises taking on the best of Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales.
It was another weekend of frustration for the South African franchises as they had to deal with law interpretations and tough conditions, with narrow defeats by the Cell C Sharks and Vodacom Bulls meaning the local teams will return to the Republic with four wins and one draw from their first 16 matches in the new competition.
The Stormers have 6 representatives in our team, 3 each from the Bulls, Lions and the Sharks made the cut.
Only 5 players were good enough in Round 4 to be included in the upcoming Springbok tour to Europe - Warrick Gelant, Evan Roos, Phepsi Butherlezi, Elrigh Louw, Carlu Sadie.
Our Round 3 URC Team: 15. Warrick Gelant (Stormers), 14. Madosh Tambwe (Bulls), 13. Cornall Hendricks (Bulls), 12. Burger Odendaal (Lions), 11. Leolin Zas (Stormers), 10. EW Viljoen (Lions), 9. Ruan Pienaar (Sharks), 8. Evan Roos (Stormers), 7. Willie Engelbrecht (Stormers), 6. Dylan Richardson (Sharks), 5. Salmaan Moerat (Stormers), 4. Ruben van Heerden (Sharks), 3. Carlu Sadie (Lions), 2. Bismarck du Plessis (Bulls), 1. Brok Harris (Stormers).
