United Rugby Championship Round 10 Preview Statistics

 

The BKT United Rugby Championship returns this weekend and here's what we have to look forward to in Round 10.

Ospreys v Benetton

Ospreys

– Ospreys won four scrum penalties (1st) and one free kick in Round 9 - they also won one penalty against the feed.

– Ospreys have thrown (164) and won (150) the most lineouts so far this season; their lineout throw success rate is 91.5% (1st). Justin Tipuric has made 37 clean lineout catches (2nd).

– Morgan Morris has made 129 carries into contact (1st), 138 post-contact metres (1st), and 23 dominant carries (3rd) so far this season.

Benetton

– Rhyno Smith (seven) and Tommaso Menoncello (six) beat the second- and third-most defenders, respectively. Benetton beat more defenders (35) than any other team.

– Manuel Zuliani won the joint-most turnovers (three) in Round 9 - all were jackals (1st). He has won 13 turnovers (1st) so far this season, 11 of which have been jackals (1st).

– Alessandro Garbisi kicked the most contestable (six) and retained (five) kicks in Round 9. Tomas Albornoz also made five contestable (2nd) and three retained (2nd) kicks.

Glasgow Warriors v Connacht

Glasgow Warriors

– Gregor Hiddleston made the most tackles (25) in Round 9. He missed just one and won a tackle turnover.

– Glasgow have made the third-most 22m entries (101), and the most successful entries (61) so far this season. They average 2.5 points per entry (2nd).

– Glasgow have won the most maul penalties (nine) and scored the most maul tries (nine). Johnny Matthews - the league’s top try scorer (seven) - has scored five maul tries.

Connacht

– Bundee Aki made the most carries (21), dominant carries (11), and post-contact metres (47) in Round 9. He also beat the most defenders (ten).

– Connacht’s gainline success rate was 50.3% (2nd) in Round 9. 37.7% of their carries were dominant (1st); they averaged 1.6 post-contact metres per carry (1st).

– Dave Heffernan has the best lineout throw success rate (95.7%) among the top 35 lineout throwers so far this season. He has thrown 70 lineouts (6th) and just three were lost.

Emirates Lions v Vodacom Bulls

Emirates Lions

– The Lions have conceded the fewest penalties (7.4) but the most turnovers (15.4) per game so far this season.

– 23.7% of The Lions’ restarts have been contested (2nd), and 15.8% have been retained (1st) so far this season.

- Morne Van Den Berg made the most carries (12), tackles (14), and kicks (ten) in Round 8 for The Lions - he also won a turnover.

Vodacom Bulls

– The Bulls have had the best ruck retention rate (96.7%) so far this season; their average ruck speed is the third-slowest of all the teams (4.3s).

– The Bulls have averaged the most metres per carry (3.7), but the fewest carries over the gainline (39.6) per game this season.

– The Bulls have averaged 29.3 kicks in play (2nd), 4.3 retained kicks (2nd), and 7.7 contestable kicks (3rd) per game so far this season.

Scarlets v Edinburgh

Scarlets

– Johnny Williams won the joint-most turnovers (three), and made the most dominant tackles (four) in Round 9.

– Scarlets averaged the most metres per carry (4.2) in Round 9. They made 536 metres overall (1st), and had a gainline success rate of 48.4% (3rd).

– Ioan Lloyd is the league’s top point scorer so far having scored 63 points - all from goal kicks.

Edinburgh

– Dave Cherry threw the second-most lineouts (15) in Round 9 and had 100% lineout success rate (1st). No player has thrown more lineouts and retained a 100% throw success rate so far this season.

– In Round 9, Edinburgh conceded the fewest turnovers (eight) but the third-most penalties (14). They have conceded the joint-fewest turnover per game (10.3) so far this season.

– 41.6% of Edinburgh’s rucks have been in the opposition 22m (1st) so far this season; they have a ruck retention rate of 95.8% (3rd).

Leinster v DHL Stormers

– Leinster made nine clean breaks (2nd) in Round 9. Josh Van Der Flier and Luke McGrath made two apiece (3rd).

– Leinster have won the second-most lineout steals (18) so far this season; Max Deegan has won more than any other player (eight).

– Caelan Doris made the most tackles (20) and carries into contact (13) for Leinster in Round 9. He also scored a try.

DHL Stormers

– Marcel Theunissen made the second-most carries (17), and dominant carries (six) in Round 9. He also made one line break.

– The Stormers made the most offloads (22) in Round 9 - Warwick Gelant made four (joint-first). They have averaged three more offloads per game than the next-best team so far this season.

– The Stormers have won the second-most scrum penalties (2.6) per game so far this season. However, they have also conceded the most scrum penalties per game (0.9); their scrum win rate is just 83.9% (16th).

Cardiff Rugby v Hollywoodbets Sharks

– Cardiff won ten turnovers (2nd) in Round 9. Josh McNally won three (joint-first) despite playing just 30 minutes - two maul turnovers (1st) and a counter ruck.

– Cardiff mauled ten times (1st) in Round 9. They made 48 metres (1st), won three penalties (1st), and scored two tries (1st).

– Aled Davies has made 30 contestable kicks (1st) so far this season - 13 have been retained (2nd).

Hollywoodbets Sharks

– So far this season, The Sharks have averaged the most metres per possession (9.9, post-contact metres per carry (0.9), and points per 22m entry (2.5).

– Andre Esterhuizen has made the joint-most dominant carries (25) so far this season. 38.5% of his carries have been dominant - the highest proportion among the top 10 players with the most dominant carries.

– Jaden Hendrikse has made the most retained (14) and the third-most contestable kicks (27) so far this season. The Sharks have had the best kick contestability rate (40.6%) of all the teams.

Dragons v Munster

– Dragons averaged 3.3 metres per carry (3rd), but just 0.6 post-contact metres per carry (14th) in Round 9.

– Angus O’Brien has made 80 kicks in play (2nd) and 3080 kick metres (1st) so far this season. He is the only player to kick more than one (four) 50/22.

– Among the Dragons squad, Taine Basham has scored the most tries (five), beat the most defenders (29), made the most dominant carries (80), and offloads (six).

Munster

– Mike Haley made 115 metres (1st) in Round 9 - the only player to make over 100m. This has taken his total to 596 (1st) so far this season.

– Billy Burns beat the most defenders (five) for Munster in Round 9, an average of 1.25 per carry (1st).

– Munster had the best 22m efficiency in Round 9; they won a penalty or scored a try in 78% of their entries, yet averaged just 0.8 points per visit (11th).

Ulster v Zebre Parma

Ulster

– Ulster made the most dominant tackles (22) in Round 9; Matty Rea, Werner Kok, and Josh McNabney made three apiece (joint-second).

– Ulster conceded the second-fewest turnovers (nine) but the joint-most penalties (16) in Round 9. Overall this season, they have conceded the joint-fewest turnovers (93) but the most penalties (107).

– Ulster have had the second-highest ruck retention rate (96.2%) so far this season; 34.2% of their rucks have been in the opposition 22m (2nd).

Zebre Parma

– Simone Gesi made three initial breaks (1st) in Round 9, taking his total to 13 so far this season (1st). He also made 86 carry metres (2nd) and scored a try.

– Zebre won six jackals (1st) in Round 9. They have won the second-most turnovers (65) overall so far this season.

– Zebre made the fewest (four) and conceded the most (15) 22m entries in Round 9. However, they averaged the second-most points (3.0) per entry.
