Flank JC Pretorius’s last-minute try saw the Pumas beat the Griffons 31-29, writes TYRONE ENGEL.
It was the Pumas’ first win at the U18 Craven Week since 2012.
The Nelspruit-based team trailed by three points late in the game, having led 16-12 at half-time, before the flank found himself at the end of a clever set-piece play and raced in for the winning score.
‘It was a set-piece move,’ said Pretorius. ‘I just thought to myself, “If I get the ball I’m just going to run and I’m not going to stop until I get over that line”. I’m happy it worked out as planned.
‘Our goal this year is to win Craven Week, and so far it’s gone well for us,’ he added. ‘I told myself that after a disappointing tournament last year, that this is going to be our year and my year.’
