u/16 Grant Khomo Day 2 – Fixtures And Match Reports

 

Both Western Province teams as well as the Golden Lions and Pumas recorded big wins on Day One of the Grant Khomo Week at Hoër Landbouskool Boland in the Western Cape.

The Grant Khomo Week will continue from 08h30 on Tuesday, with Boland set to face the Leopards on the A field, and Zimbabwe scheduled to play the Free State XV on the B field.

13h50: Free State 20-09 Golden Lions, A Field

12h30: South Western Districts 12-19 Sharks, A Field

Western Province XV 38-07 Pumas
Western Province XV dominated from the word and outscored the Pumas six tries to one to secure a 38-07 win after leading 24-00 at the halftime break.

Griffons 17-20 Limpopo Blue Bulls
The Griffons were in fine form in the first half and took a 12-05 lead going into the second half, seemingly on their way to a convincing win. However, the Limpopo Bulls started the second half applying pressure and scored two tries to one of the Griffons in the second half to secure a close 20-17 win.

Border 17-34 Eastern Province
Eastern Province started like a house on fire and scored four unanswered tries in the first half to change sides leading 31-00 against Border. However, the Border came back in the second half to score three tries of their own, however a little too late with Eastern Province adding a converted penalty in the second half to secure a 34-17 win.

Namibia 45-19 Border Country Districts
Namibia remained unbeaten when they completely outplayed Border CD to win 45-19 after leading 19-00 at the halftime break. Namibia scored seven tries with a fifteen-man effort with forwards and backs getting their name on the scoreboard.

Boland 30-25 Leopards
The Leopards used the better opportunities of day 2 and started like a house on fire opening up a halftime lead of 15-12. However Boland found their feet and started to attack from everywhere with their outside backs making the most of the quality turnover ball the received. Boland scored four tries in the second half to win 30-25. Great handling and willingness by all the boys ensured that the spectators were entertained.

Zimbabwe 24-21 Free State XV
In one of the surprises Zimbabwe showed a lot of determination to beat the Free State XV 24-21 after trailing 12-14 at the halftime break. It was a nice flowing game with both teams showing a lot of willingness with the wet ball as the rain started to affect general play.
