Two u/19 Provincial Players Suspended Following Use Of Prohibited Substances

 

SAIDS has confirmed two u/19 rugby players tested positive for prohibited substances during an u/19 match in 2022 between Cheetahs and Western Province and were handed lengthy suspensions.

1) Western Province hooker, Gustav Laubscher was found guilty of an anti-doping rule violation after participating in the u/19 match in 2022 between Cheetahs and Western Province and was suspended for three years.

Laubscher tested positive for the presence of Metandienone and its metabolites epimetendiol (17β-methyl-5β- androst-1-ene-3α,17α-diol, 17α epimetandienone, metandienone LTM (17β-OH-methyl-17α-methyl-18-norandrost-1,4,13-triene-3-one), 6β-hydroxy-metandienone and 17, 17-Dimethyl-18-norandrosta-1,4,13-triene-3-one; Methyltestosterone metabolites, 17α-methyl-5α-androstan-3α,17β-diol, 17α-methyl-5β-androstan-3α,17β-diol and Clenbuterol.

His period of ineligibility began on 16 January 2023 (the date he was notified of his Mandatory Provisional Suspension) and will be effective until and including 15 January 2026.

2) Toyota Cheetahs lock, Aiden Oosthuizen, was found guilty of an anti-doping rule violation after participating in the U19 match between Cheetahs and Western Province and was suspended for five years.

Oosthuizen tested positive for the presence of 19-norandrosterone; 19-noreticholanolone; Dehydrochloromethyl-testosterone and its metabolites, DHCMT-M3 (4α-chloro-18-nor-17β-hydroxymethyl,17α-methyl-5α-androst-13-en-3α-ol), 6β-hydroxy-DHCMT (4-Chloro-6β,17β-dihydroxy-17-methyl-androst-1,4-dien-3-one); Metandienone metabolite, Epimetendiol and Tamoxifen metabolite, 3-hydroxy-4-metoxy-tamoxifen.

His period of ineligibility began on 16 January 2023 (the date he was notified of his Mandatory Provisional Suspension) and will be effective until and including 15 January 2028.
