Two Toyota Cheetahs Players Cited Following Loss Against Oyonnax

 

Two players of the Toyota Cheetahs were cited following their 27-28 loss to Oyonnax Rugby at Stade Charles-Mathon on Saturday, 20 January 2024.

Red card – Munier Hartzenberg (Toyota Cheetahs) - The Toyota Cheetahs wing, Munier Hartzenberg (No 11), was issued with a red card during his club’s EPCR Challenge Cup, Round 4 match against Oyonnax Rugby at Stade Charles-Mathon on Saturday, 20 January 2024.

Hartzenberg was sent off by the referee, Anthony Woodthorpe (England), in the 19th minute of the match for tackling the Oyonnax Rugby full back, Maxime Salles (No 15), in the air in a dangerous manner in contravention of Law 9.17.

Law 9.17 A player must not tackle an opponent whose feet are off the ground. Under World Rugby’s Sanctions for Foul Play, Law 9.17 carries the following sanction entry points - Low End: 4 weeks; Mid-range: 8 weeks; Top end: 12 to 52 weeks.

Roddy MacLeod (Scotland), Chair, Martyn Wood (England) and Chris Morgan (Wales) have been appointed as the independent Disciplinary Committee for the hearing which will take place by video conference today (Tuesday, 23 January).

Citing complaint – Dan Kasende (Toyota Cheetahs) - EPCR has received a citing complaint against the Toyota Cheetahs wing, Dan Kasende (No 14), arising from his club’s EPCR Challenge Cup, Round 4 match against Oyonnax Rugby at Stade Charles-Mathon on Saturday, 20 January 2024.

Kasende is alleged to have struck the Oyonnax Rugby No 8, Loic Godener, with his forearm in a dangerous manner in the 54th minute of the match in contravention of Law 9.11.

The complaint was made by the match Citing Commissioner, Eric Jara Literas (Spain).

Law 9.11 A player must not do anything that is reckless or dangerous to others, including leading with the elbow or forearm

Under World Rugby’s Sanctions for Foul Play, Law 9.11 carries the following sanction entry points - Low End: 2 weeks; Mid-range: 6 weeks; Top end: 10 to 52 weeks.

Katherine Mackie (Scotland), Chair, Mirian Tavzarashvili (Georgia) and Tony Wheat (Ireland) have been appointed as the independent Disciplinary Committee for the hearing which will take place by video conference on Wednesday (24 January).
