The Toyota Cheetahs had an easy day out on the field against the Barcelona Diables when they thrashed them 99 - 15 during the Toyota Challenge. The Toyota Cheetahs outscored the visitors with 15 tries to 2.
The Cheetahs who are using the Toyota Challenge to prepare for the Currie Cup, totally dominated in the first half and managed to score 33 unanswered points within the first 24 minutes with a variety of running rugby and attacking phase play. The Diables who were reduced to 14 men after a red card in the 6th minute only managed to score their first points with a penalty kick in the 24th minute after a yellow card was given to the Cheetahs.
Playing against 14 men gave the Diables a scoring opportunity when they managed to score a converted try soon thereafter increasing their score to 10 against the 33 of the Cheetahs. The Cheetahs however soon hit back with another try from a lineout close to the Diables try line. The Cheetahs kept on finding gaps in the Diables backline defence and continued to score more tries increasing the scoreline to 50 - 10 with a total of 8 tries in the first half.
The Diables started the second half with much better play. They managed to hold onto the ball and put together some good attacking phase play for the first 10 minutes. The Cheetahs however absorbed the Diables pressure and continued their scoring spree exploiting the poor Diables defence with another 7 tries compared to the Diables who only managed to score one try. The match mercifully ended just short of the 100 points tally.
