The Fidelity ADT Lions hosted the Toyota Cheetahs in the final match of Round 5 of the Currie Premier Vision on Sunday in Johannesburg. The visitors completely dominated the Fidelity ADT Lions in the second half to win 50-15.
The first 40 minutes of the match did not produce a lot of excitement with both sides who had several opportunities to score which they did not use. The hosts were at a stage down to 13 players which was not fully exploited by the Toyota Cheetahs. The second half was dominated by the Toyota Cheetahs as they ran in 6 tries to the 1 of their hosts in the second half to win 50-15.
The Fidelity ADT Lions scored the first try of the match following a brilliant break down the middle of the pitch before Ruan Smith bulldozed his way over the tryline.
The Toyota Cheetahs' reply was almost immediate when Tapiwa Mafura scored in the corner, while Pienaar converted to level the scores after 7 minutes of play.
Following an extended period of pressure Jeandré Rudolph pick up and go through the middle and scored the Cheetahs' second try to lead 14-10 and 16 minutes left to play.
The rest of the first half was fairly even, however two cards shown to the hosts, Jurich Claasens and Raynard Roets did make matters difficult for the Fidelity ADT Lions. The red card shown to Raynard Roets should take its toll later in the match.
The gaps eventually opened up for the Toyota Cheetahs out wide and Tapiwa Mafura scored his second try of the match with time already up on the clock which resulted in the Toyota Cheetahs leading 19-10 going into the second half.
The Toyota Cheetahs started the second half like a house on fire and Marko Janse van Rensburg scored the first points of the half from the back of a 5m lineout maul .
Shortly thereafter Jeandré Rudolph bulldoze his way over the Fidelity ADT Lions tryline as the visitors threatens to run away with the game, leading 33-10.
This was followed 7 minutes later with yet another try following 5m lineout-maul as flanker Daniel Maartens dot down. The Touyota Cheetahs were at this satge in complete control and led 40-10 after they scored 21 unanswered points in the first twenty minutes after the halftime break.
With 15 minutes to go the seccond yellow card was shown to Daniel Kasende (Toyota Cheetahs). The Fidelity Lions' Michael van Vuuren scored from the back of a5m lineout-maul following the yellow card of Kasende, reducing the lead of the visitors to 25 points.
Daniel Maartens scored the Toyota Cheetahs 7th try, stretching their lead to a massive 47-15. Tapiwa Mafura scored his 3rd try after some brilliant footwork "bamboozled" the hosts' defence.
