The Reds Demolish A Battling Western Force

The Reds moved to the top of the Super Rugby AU log after a comprehensive win with 57-5 against a battling Western Force.

It took the Reds thirteen minutes to "score" the first try of the match after a good seven minutes of the Western Force dominance. The "try" was disallowed but the Reds wasted no time to hit again with five minutes to go in the first quarter. Despite constant pressure by the Western Force the Reds' defence held to close off the 1st quarter with a 7-0 lead.

Ten minutes later it was Filipo Daugunu to score his second try of the match. At the time of the Reds' second try, the match was still evenly poised. This was evident when the Reds opted to convert a penalty rather than to go to the corner. The converted penalty stretched the lead of the Reds to 15-0.

The Force struck first in the second half when they mauled themselves over the tryline with just two minutes from the start of the second half. A yellow card against the Western Force resulted in two quick tries in succession saw the Reds stretch their lead to 29-7 with twenty minutes to go.

A brace by Tate McDermott was the final nail in the coffin of the Western Force with 18 minutes to go. Three further tries gave the Reds a brilliant win with 57-5.

The Reds will enjoy a bye next weekend while the Western Force will face log leaders Brumbies.
